LOZENGE formed in Houston, TX in 1993, re-formed in Chicago, IL in 1996, and remained active in shuddering fits and starts through 2005.

UNDONE was our 4th album, mostly recorded at the now (apparently) legendary Key Club in Benton Harbor, MI. True to form, it was released after Kyle moved from Chicago to San Francisco; we made a valiant go of a reunion/release tour in 2005, but ever since... crickets.

The constant core membership:
- Kyle Bruckmann (electric accordion, minimoog, oboe, vocals)
- Kurt Johnson (electric bass)
- Philip Montoro (scrap metal percussion)
- Mark Stevens (drums & percussion)
...was once augmented by the now dearly departed John Robbins (electric viola, tenor saxophone) and, later, occasionally joined by the still very-much-alive Boris Hauf (tenor saxophone).

Over the course of four full albums and several clumsy lurches across the United States, LOZENGE carved out an idiosyncratic aesthetic of sensory over-stimulation, poly-/a-/hyper-rhythmic propulsion, labyrinthine black humor, and tooth-rattling timbral density. In performance, LOZENGE aspired to the transformative joy of extreme energy expenditure and collective self-immolation. Everything broke, every time. We considered this frightfully compelling aesthetically, not to mention "fun."

For a glorious minute there, we routinely shared bills in dank venues with many of the more notorious and/or obscure smartass anti-rock travesties of the Turn of the Century (our beloved comrades), a partial and alphabetized name-dropping of which must include: ARAB ON RADAR \ ATHLETIC AUTOMATON / CHEER-ACCIDENT \ BOBBY CONN / COUGHS \ DYN@MUTT / DEERHOOF \ DRIVE LIKE JEHU / THE EYESORES \ FAT DAY / FAT WORM OF ERROR \ FLYING LUTTENBACHERS / HELLA \ HERC. / LARVAL \ THE LOWDOWN / MACHINE GUN TV \ MADAME ESTRELLA / MAGIC IST KUNTMASTER \ MY NAME IS RAR-RAR / NAUTICAL ALMANAC \ NIMROD / PLAGUE OF YETI \ SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM / SWEEP THE LEG JOHNNY \ SWORD HEAVEN / TV POW \ VIZA-NOIR / WASTEOID \ YAKUZA / YBO2 \ YOWIE

WHEREAS:

- the three labels which released our recordings are now utterly defunct
- it has come to our attention that MULTIPLE more recent bands have had the temerity to filch our name
- the misbegotten Streaming Era has not been kind to us (go ahead, try finding our music elsewhere online - the metadata is utterly FUBAR - see above re: "defunct labels" and "more recent bands")
- this, the Year of Our Common Era 2024, marks the occasion of the 30th anniversary of our first album and tour
- the hoary counterculture maxim "never trust anyone over 30" should surely apply, above all, to "punk" bands

LET IT BE HEREBY RESOLVED that we are taking matters into our own hands to resuscitate our discography here, as our own damn Deluxe Boxless Set.
