A nuanced and unique foray into the diverse and complex galaxy of microtonality, in a mixture of styles blending electronic funk, breakbeat and atmospheric elements.
A variety of alternative equal temperaments are employed in this album, adding or removing notes from the familiar 12 to allow for approximations of frequency ratios higher up in the harmonic series, often at the expense of the familiar ratios. This allows for vast landscapes of strange tonality, rich and unusual chords and progressions, mind-bending melodies and novel modulations. Please enjoy!
In the title of each track is listed the equal division of the octave (edo) utilized, to allow for an understanding of the specific sound each tuning has to offer. I really tried to capture the magic of alternative tuning systems, and bottle it up into something special. This album really means a lot to me, I'm always trying to improve and the kind feedback I have been receiving gives me a lot of confidence to continue. Thank you!

My name is Declan Clark, better known as 'Xotla', a Nahuatl word meaning 'to ignite' or 'to blossom', the fusion of which is a beautiful concept I chose my alias in honor of. I spend my time amongst lush forests and diverse wildlife, which inspires the music I create.
I work with a mixture of unusual time signatures and esoteric tunings, and utilise instruments such as microtonal guitars.
