Baja by Missions
MISSIONS - BAJA is a SIGHT Specific collaboration between Matt Gribben and TJ Tambellini (Topian Xome, Verma) from a trip down to the tip of Baja in September 2022, which halfway through was met with a visit from Hurricane Kay.
SIGHT Specific is a packaged collection of stills, motion, design, AI experiments, and sound from unique destinations. Sound stems are captured on location, including granular randomization of field samples, and later mixed and composed. In this case, the samples are from around the Baja destination - insects at night, footsteps on dirt roads, clanking on mezcal bottles, cafe atmosphere, struggles with a Spanish language Alexa device, and hurricane wind gusts. Results can be lush and cinematic or produce more abstracted sound design.
