48 Inventions by Tom Furgas

These inventions were composed from 1983-1988, mostly four-part (SATB) scoring. The titles are mostly whimsical and are really more "names" than titles, in that they don't usually have any connection with the music. Although I call these "inventions" they are not usually contrapuntal, as with the Inventions of J.S.Bach. I call them "inventions" simply because like Bach's Inventions they are brief and usually only develop one idea each. The cover photo is by Barrett Sinclair.

I was born in 1954 in Youngstown, Ohio. Studied piano from age 6. Studied composition and theory at the Dana School in Youngstown with Adolphus Hailstork and Edward Largent. Also studied piano with Roman Rudnytsky. Begin home-taping activities in 1981. Began trading and selling cassettes of my work in 1983. This Bandcamp discography is not complete, but includes my best work.
