Present by The Sunchymes
'Present' is the third album by The Sunchymes. The music of The Sunchymes has been described as a synthesis of the psychedelic era of The Beatles and The Beach Boys but with additional twists to encompass other influences including The Byrds, Love, Pink Floyd and The Zombies. If you like harpsichords combined with jangly guitars, Mellotrons and sunny harmonies please give it a listen.
'The instant attraction of this album is secured by the opening track 'I'll call you up today'...You sense that 'Mellotree Park' is a continuation of this but the sound is developed further. You can draw suitable comparisons with the 'Pet Sounds' Beach Boys era on this one because of the intricacy on show in the overall layout. You sense the influence of Wilson with 'Time will tell'. This is another tune which is something of a revelation to hear.... 8/10 (U&I Magazine September 2015)
'The Sunchymes just continue to dazzle with their brand of psychedelic sunshine pop. The layered harmonies are all over “I’ll Call You Up Today,” and the composition “Time Will Tell” owe more to Curt Boettcher’s Millennium, than Beatles or Beach Boy influences.
Two previously released singles (“Mr. Buckstone” and “Through My Eyes”) are added, but the new music is just as compelling with special standouts; “Lady Gracious” and the trippy “Pictures in Your Mind.” Fans of the bands mentioned above should check it out, and anyone who enjoys retro-styled power pop will love it' (Powerpopaholic.com)
'The Sunchymes are a studio-based sunshine pop outfit from the distinctly unsunny environs of Northampton. Their third album continues their ever more assured line in harpsichord and harmony laced soft-psych. Packed with Brian Wilson-esque melodies, chamber-pop arrangements and lyrics about parks, carousels and daydreaming, it makes for a pleasant listen.
