Alone Together by Tassos Spiliotopoulos
The latest release by guitarist Tassos Spiliotopoulos is a collection of new renditions of timeless Jazz classics. Having previously released five albums of all original music Tassos Spiliotopoulos takes up the jazz guitar trio format to present a side of his artistry perhaps unfamiliar with listeners who would have associated him with more modern jazz sounds.
The new trio with bassist Christian Lehnberg and drummer Tomaz Nillson from Sweden have been playing together for a while so it felt very natural to record in the studio. Tassos Spiliotopoulos says ''.. we did the whole record in one afternoon and most of the tracks are first takes..''. Included in the album are two tracks with the amazing singer Jenny Holmgren. These are two acoustic versions of 'Summertime' and 'Night and Day' in an intimate duo performance of guitar and song.
The recording has a genuine sound and feel and captures some great playing by the trio who move from intricacy to power while the interplay between them is always in focus. 'Alone Together' is an album that is beautiful in its simplicity yet will grow within the listener with every new listen.
