Fireman by SUNDAYS

Just two weeks before the release of their long awaited debut album, the prominent Danish folk-group, SUNDAYS, let out their frosty clear and heart warming ballad, ’Fireman’.

On January 11th 2019, ’Fireman’ will be the last in a chain of singles, all leading up to SUNDAYS’ first complete work. The first single ’Passenger’s Choir’ from November 2017, formed the passage into their new, broader sound, while ’Fireman’ crack the shutters open wide to the full extend of the debut album, ’Wiaca’ – out January 25th, on Celebration Records.

Where the previous singles such as ’Shade of the Pines’, ’Rush’ and the christmassy hymn ’Don’t Call Me Jesus’, have been narrated around friendship, loss and expectations from the outside world, ’Fireman’ is written to Magnus himself. He has turned the stethoscope inward, trying to capture the beatings and words coming from- and to his own heart. He explains:
”I have reached a point in my life, where most of the peers of my social circle are entering the chapter of parenthood and settling down. This is undoubtedly a very natural stage of life, and there is certainly something in me that really wants this – but there is also a part of me that is far from done with the unbinding, selfish and uprooted part of youth. Even though my biological clock is ticking away in a maelstrom of notifications from everyone around me, I think it is really important to listen to oneself, and take life one bite at a time. It feels like a paradoxical life task really, to enjoy each second fully, while trying to keep up with my body and minds’ biologic chronology. The title, ’Fireman’, is my image of that paradox, being someone who is both taking in the world with devouring flame and hunger, but also the one who will have to put out the fires again.”

The single is produced by Mads Bjørn, and features both Scott Westh on trumpet, and Frederik Flach on piano.

Sundays is a new spark from the Danish underground scene, centering North Jutlandic Magnus Jacobsen on vocals and guitar.

Intensity, melody and nerve are the keystones which manifests in the young songwriters universe, and with a live setup involving vast amounts of backing harmonics in an organic instrumentation, this is exactly what the spectator can expect.
