this love song is for the mountain girl, for whom i sing each day.
i originally composed this song on the banjo (a 'distant cousin' of the kora) and take inspiration for some of the experimental plucking techniques from the claw-hammer style.
i got the idea to play this song on the kora (and indeed, the inspiration to play the kora AT ALL) from the legend Toumani Diabaté, who sometimes snuck the melody of "Oh, Susanna" into his improvisations during the kora classes i took at his home in Bamako, Mali.
Toumani has brought the kora to so many people around the world and i thank him for everything he taught me and for all the work he does through music to build a world of peace.
