theres a myth that if you walk the rail trail long enough you'll end up in new york city
i wonder how long it would take me to walk back home from here
sometimes i miss the subways and their messes enough to ride the train back and forth
i call you just to hear the rumble in the background

you know how soft i can get so i ask you please don't leave your imprints
hang up quickly so i can learn how to breathe again
and every time i walk alongside a road without any sidewalks
i pray to god that i am on the right track

i like to see the world inside out
i want to know the way that feeling works
a brief excursion into the past
leaves me such a mess
