Colonia Chelonia from Flowers Dope by Shokh

I've always wanted to make a track with this melodical bassline progression. At the same time i was ashamed of it for many years.
When I was a little boy i loved to listen to Pop music on the radio. I recorded many tapes on a little yellow radio cassette recorder. Eurodance was a big part of it. This style had many bassline progressions like the one on "Colonia Chelonia". (Fortunately many tracks of this genre were a copy of a copy of a copy so i could listen to them all day.) When i later started to love the sounds of Italo-Disco i realized that the genre also had these kind of basslines in it.
The idea of adapting this matter was always in the back of my head since i began producing. But i was ashamed of the roots that i would have used. Because at some point in life i thought that both styles i loved so much back then were superficial cheesy short-dated bubble-gum-ish fast food. I love to listen to and play some of those records but producing some thing like that? Nah. In 2023 the idea of doing my own thing with this bassline progression came back to me, once again. It was a hot giorno d'estate and i was hanging around in Cologne, the most northern city of Italy. I did a session in the studio of my homee Philipp Hammes with whom i celebrate every kind of music without borders. Also i remembered the release of the great self-titled "Il Quadro Di Troisi" LP more than a year before. Here Donato Dozzy and Eva Geist used early italian radio music influences and transformed them into a modern style which resulted in one of the best danceable Pop albums i know so far. It might also be that i befriended that little "Pop Dave" more than before. However, all of those facts probably helped me with realizing that cheesy fast food can be a lifesaver once in a while and that i gotta do what i gotta do.
