OTHER LIGHT ENSEMBLE present With Lungs Heavy (Braced)

Other Light Ensemble is an ever-changing experimental music collective from Derbyshire, anchored by the core duo of Jonathan Hill and Ryan James Mawbey.

Over time, collaborators have included artists such as Tony Buck (The Necks), Chris Jones (Unqualified Nurse Band), guitarist Matt Redfern, percussionist Alessandro Cau, and saxophonist Patrick Shiroishi.

With Lungs Heavy (Braced) finds Jonathan and Ryan without contributors, allowing the core sound to emerge. The album traverses the liminal space between free improvisation and meditative passages.

The duo’s sound unfolds through a diverse array of instruments – percussion, homemade devices, saxophone, tape loops, synth, and harmonium – creating an environment that's intimate as well as expansive.

The track titles for this album are taken in their entirety from a poem penned by artist Luke Drozd (Misery Bacon; Soft Noise Ensemble). Written in response to the music, Luke’s words further invite the listener into this singular sonic journey.
