Featherweight Tapes presents Future Perfect, the new mini-album by Robi Mitch, released digitally and on cassette on the 23rd of April 2021.
The album title plays with the idea of utopia, a constant theme throughout. Robi reveals musical influences from east Asian indie scenes (notably those of Taiwan and Japan), while also dipping into soul, psychedelia and folk.
The end result is a sound that feels both well-travelled and timeless, with vintage synths ensconced in tastefully contemporary production. Robi’s “hi-lo-fi” sound is indebted to the skills of mix engineer Benjamin Satherley-Johnson and mastering maestro Shawn Joseph.
Future Perfect sees Robi explore his own take on pop songwriting (albeit always in a quirky, off-kilter manner), with the end result a quasi-concept album journeying between the everyday and the existential. Robi’s joyful, insightful take on human experience will refresh and uplift you, while the arrangements he crafts alongside collaborators Mike Griffiths, Liam Owen and Isabelle Povey are sure to delight any listener with an inquisitive ear.
