Taking Off from Afterglow by Resolution 88
Signalling their intention right from the opening percussion break, Resolution 88 open their account on this second album with a powerful call and response between Alex Hitchcock’s alto / tenor lines and Tom O’Grady’s Rhodes and mellotron phrases. The song drops away to nothing as a Rhodes solo grows from a simple beginning, reharmonizing the Weather Report-like changes and finally returning the track to the opening riff. Ric Elsworth then throws down a no-holds-barred four-to-the-floor beat whilst Alex Hitchcock launches into a ballsy alto solo to close out the song.
