Snow Blind by Peter Wright

Originally destined to be one half of a 2 album set based on seasonal meditations that was commissioned by Ultra Hard Gel - possibly the only time I've had a specific request to make an album around a theme, albeit a fairly open-ended one. The spring/summer collection became An Angel Fell Where The Kestrels Hover, while Snow Blind was to be the dark, brooding winter album.

The recordings were completed fairly quickly in July 2007, but the whole label deal eventually fell through leaving this lying dormant on the shelf for 18 months or so, until the good folks at INSTALL stepped up to the plate.

This is a record that imagines the endless dull grey English winter against an even bleaker backdrop of a country in perpetual decline, at war with a nameless enemy, disintegrating and dissolving. It's probably the most politically infused recording I've made - if you can infer any influence on instrumental soundscapes without guidance. Sadly, a decade on from this period the view doesn't seem to have improved.

Snow Blind is an intense listen, but is a double album that somehow manages to dissolve time - which is an achievement I'm fairly proud of. Special thanks to David and Brian at INSTALL for unleashing the beast.
