The Temple by Bea McMahon
"The Temple" is a feature length documentary tour of the inner workings of "Temple OS", a Biblical-themed computer Operating System designed to be the "Third Temple" as prophesied in the Bible. It was created by American programmer Terry A. Davis (1969-2018), who developed it alone over the course of a decade after a series of episodes that he later described as a revelation from God.
Declared a schizophrenic, Davis grew to be a cult hero on underground Internet forums such as 4chan where he was equally mocked and praised for his mental illness, creativity, vocal outbursts, and his regular use of racial epithets, which he explained was his way of combating actors of psychological warfare. During his final months, he struggled with periods of homelessness and incarceration. In 2018, he was struck by a train and died at the age of 48. Investigators could not determine if his death was suicide or accidental. Produced in the wake of Davis' death, "The Temple" explores the magnum opus of a singular creator's descent into schizophrenia, paranoia, mental illness, and creative accomplishment.
