Poi Swing by Rei, Coupe, Cee Blu
Fresh from a global showcase tour in Australia and the UK, and a summer tour of Aotearoa, Rei presents his latest single, Poi Swing, with electronic artist Coupe and RnB singer Cee Blu.
For Poi Swing, Rei was inspired by Aotearoa greats such as Pātea Māori Club and Oceania to create a festival-ready bi-lingual te reo banger. Poi Swing is part of the new wave of Māori Electronic music with artists such as Lady Shaka, Mokotron and Huia carving out new spaces for reo Māori music.
Rei is now known for his te reo-infused dance bangers and this waiata is as dance-floor-ready as they come. Coupe has produced many of Rei’s popular remixes under his previous alias ‘Sean Richards’, proving himself to be one of Aotearoa’s most prolific te reo dance music producers. Poi Swing is his first release as Coupe, marking a definitive shift to the house genre. Rei and Cee Blu have also had success with their collaborations Tell Me Twice and Whāia te Rā.
Poi Swing is released as Rei wraps up his Aotearoa tour, following successful showcases at SXSW Sydney, and the prestigious WOMEX in Manchester in October last year. His single Toitū was also trending on Tiktok and Spotify NZ Viral Chart (#17) amid the hīkoi and activations around Aotearoa recently. Rei has loads more shows around the world to be announced for 2025 and stay tuned for Rei’s new album Moisturize & Decolonize releasing in October. So get on the waka and make that poi swing!
