2 by First Tone

One year to the day since First Tone released their first archival work, Duane Pitre (solo works on Important Records, Root Strata, NNA Tapes) and Turk Dietrich (duo works with Belong and Second Woman on kranky, Spectrum Spools, and Tresor) return with the second release in this series, the aptly titled 2. These two long-form pieces serve as a definitive step further in the direction of their work on the full length Reactions LP (Spectrum Spools, 2019).

If 1 is terrestrial - evoking tones reflective of the land and the sea - 2 is celestial. “Untitled I" gives an air of atmospheric drift. Sound moves as if soaring high above the Earth, shifting in, around, and through itself in weightless flight. As the piece progresses, the listener’s place of origin becomes distorted in the distance, creating a sense of having left behind what is familiar. “Untitled II” sees the journey turn ultimately ascendent. It illuminates the darkness of wide open space, freely floating beyond the atmosphere, expanding without the pull gravity in an infinite expanse.

The album art features a second piece from the 2014 cyanotype series by French artist Manon Bellet titled Sous surface, and has been printed on risograph in New Orleans by Constance for the physical cassette edition. To accompany this release, there will be a limited re-print of the cassette edition of 1.
