Mary Broadcast and her family's old farmhouse are an inseparable story. The house in the district of Braunau in Upper Austria, which has always been affectionately known as the “ranch”, has been uninhabited for two generations. It was built by Mary's father, mother and grandmother, who has already passed away, as a farm building for the small and used by her and her siblings as a playground and later as a party location. It was her grandmother's place of work and is a window into a bygone era. Before the house was sold Mary spent over six months on site retracing the history of the house and the family once again acoustically captured by means of field recordings and recordings.
Acoustic family history
The result is six songs about grief, pain, coping, family stories, identity, memories, transience, change and the future. Some of the titles of the works refer to the family members. This also tells the family story, which is closely interwoven with the house. The voice recordings of Mary Broadcast's parents and family members add a personal touch to the music.
