Paper Boat by Major Ruse

‘Paper Boat’ is the debut album from Major Ruse, an exciting EDM & Punk-influenced contemporary jazz quartet hailing from Nottingham.

As an album, Paper Boat looks at the multi-faceted nature of the individual, the acceptance of all aspects of self, and the journey towards self-acceptance through music. Introspection and soul-searching are represented through flowing, rich melodies and expansiveness whilst aggression, insecurity and discomfort oftentimes take the form of quick dynamic changes, jagged rhythms and complex melodies.

This album shows a culmination of countless years of professional musicianship shared between the band, and each song reflects the effort, care, and instrumental mastery that they possess. With Marcus Joseph on saxophone, Joe Egan on guitar, Jack Benjamin on bass and Jamie Sykes on drums, this debut album has true depth and character, dancing between influences and genres seamlessly, whilst maintaining authenticity to a central theme.
