The Story of Cry Radio

Cry Radio is a snapshot of young love. A glimpse of an intimate connection in the year 2000 when a boy and a girl fell hard for each other. They spent a couple brief seasons falling in love and writing songs for and about each other. It didn't take long for reality to shatter the dream they had sheltered in and force the two young lovers apart.

The name was borrowed from a short film the girl once saw about a radio station that only played sad songs. All of it was recorded at home on a Tascam Porta 02 with a couple of crappy microphones.

The boy wrote most of the songs, sang, played piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion. The girl sang and wrote the lyrics to 'How are we living?'; a touching tribute to the ephemeral nature of the fleeting moment if ever there was one. The girl also played violin at a couple live shows they played, but unfortunately that never made it onto the recorded songs. Probably because the boy mostly recorded these songs at home alone late at night dreaming of the girl. The girl also took the picture used for the cover art.

'Everything merges with the night' was written by Brian Eno, but you probably knew that already.

The boy and girl never reunited. They went their separate ways and their paths so widely diverged that they saw each other only one time after they split and spoke again only one time after that a number of years later. They both went forward in life towards happy, fulfilling lives in new places.

This music is dedicated to all of the love burnt away in the first light of reality. I also hope that these songs can serve as a reminder that despite all of the heartbreak you might endure, despite the depth of pain or sorrow you (yes, you!) may be feeling right now, it will pass. With some work and effort it all gets better.
