ETERNESENSE by Lelo Nazario

ETERNESENSE is about the resilience of living organisms, the way they organize themselves to survive and become eternal, generation after generation... In essence, the music is about the search for the perpetuation of life, a behavior present in all organisms, despite the fact we know life is finite and will inexorably have a beginning, middle and end. For this reason, although conceived to be heard without interruption, ETERNESENSE is divided into four parts (childhood, youth, maturity, old age), so it is an imaginary soundtrack for this great spectacle that has been constant on the planet since time immemorial and present in our lives since forever…

Like the vital changes that take place over a long, long time, ETERNESENSE has a slower development and demands a more attentive listening to details. The complexity of these natural mechanisms appears in music in the form of synthesizer timbres, in the spatial distribution of instruments, in the way effects are applied to the piano. The forest, where all these processes happen continuously, is also cited throughout the suite.

The composition was conceived and recorded in my studio (UTOPIA), during 2022 and 2023, by making use of analog and virtual synthesizers, in addition to sound effects and samples of percussion instruments, guitar, flute, cello (Tina Guo), and voice (Adey Bell). For the most part, the music is tonal, but some very expressive atonal passages and contemporary electroacoustic music are also found. The suite can be considered a piece for piano and electronic sounds, in which the piano appears in different acoustic environments throughout the composition, and its timbre is modified by an array of effects.
