The Tides by Krista Muir *

When I cross tumultuous seas, melody pulls me out of the lowest lows - sheltering me from the waves that try to crash through everything. In many ways, sculpting and recording this album saved my life. It is my darkest album to date as several tracks relate directly to my years of living in limbo and chronic pain and fatigue due to endometriosis. Thanks to friends, family, The Endometriosis Network Canada, and music music music, I've held steadfast through the multiple surgeries and nomadic lifestyle.

Initially every one of these songs was written on the baritone ukulele with the exception of “What Doesn’t Kill You” - originally a dark synth goth track written as a test for a composer program I wasn't accepted into. When I decided to do a DIY guerrilla recording project and record the album within two weeks I improvised on piano, synths, percussion and the songs took on new lives because I fractured my left middle finger in San Antonio swinging (almost) like Tarzan at the end of March 2017 and had to throw away some of the arrangements initially written on uke.

The good news is even with this perfect storm the wake wasn't enough to overturn my craft and I can even snap again!
