This album chugs like a Harley gliding up an imperfect take off ramp.
Because this guitar is so awesome, I decided to spotlight its wonderful tones in a series of improvised songs based on the adventures of Evel Knievel. No loop pedals or other instruments. Just this guitar and a few of my hand built effects boxes. Recorded over two days on my reliable Tascam DR-40.
trk 1 "Earth Mover Wheelies/the Lights go out in Butte, Montana"
After seeing Joie Chitwood's Dare Devil Thrill Show, a young Robby Knievel tries to pop some wheelies in a Earth Mover while working at the copper mines in Butte, Montana. He wrecks, causing a town wide power outage and gets fired.
trk 2 "Triumph over Caesars Palace"
While attempting to jump a Triumph Bonneville T120 over Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Knievel senses the motorcycle's loss of power during take off and crashes. He suffered a crushed pelvis and femur, fractures to his hip, wrist, and both ankles, and a concussion that kept him in the hospital. Rumors circulated that he was in a coma for 29 days in the hospital. The Caesars Palace crash was Knievel's longest attempted motorcycle jump at 141 feet (43 m). After his crash and recovery, Knievel was more famous than ever.
trk 3 "Spread Eagle Wild Turkey and the Bell Star Helmet"
Perseverance, Ritual, Protection
Early in his career Knievel attempted a stunt in which he would jump, spread-eagled, over a speeding motorcycle. He jumped too late and the motorcycle hit him in the groin, tossing him 15 feet into the air. The morning of his Caesars Palace jump, Knievel stopped in the casino and placed his last $100 on the blackjack table (which he lost), stopped by the bar, and had a shot of Wild Turkey, and then headed outside for the jump. Knievel was a proponent of motorcycle helmet safety. He constantly encouraged his fans to wear motorcycle helmets. The Bell Star helmet he used in the Caesars Palace jump is credited for having saved Knievel's life after he fell off the motorcycle and struck his head on the ground. Following the Caesars Palace crash, each of Knievel's full-face helmets bore the slogan, "Color Me Lucky."
trk 4 "Viva Knievel! movie theme"
There was a 1977 action film starring Evel that had a theme. (this is not it)
trk 5 "15 Mustangs 14 Greyhounds and 433 Broken Bones"
Records broken
trk 6 "Snake River Canyon and the X2"
trk 7 "I came in Walking, I went out Walking"
After his Wembley Stadium jump attempt and crash in near shock with a broken pelvis, He ignored Frank Gifford's of ABC's Wide World of Sports plea to use a stretcher, and walked off stating, "I came in walking, I went out walking!"
trk 8 "I will Never Ever Ever Jump again"
After his Wembley Stadium jump attempt and crash, Knievel addressed the audience and announced his retirement by stating, "Ladies and gentlemen of this wonderful country, I've got to tell you that you are the last people in the world who will ever see me jump. Because I will never, ever, ever jump again. I'm through."
