Glitter Sands from June LaLonde by June LaLonde
I've been trying to make a track like this for years at this point. The amount of project files in my music folder is kinda testament to that. Wanted something with a definite groove but also little quirky - something that'd fit on a Gorrilaz album, basically.
It started with the bassline (played on my P-Bass) that would then get backed up by the clean guitar and chip synth. I also wanted to lean real heavy into synth patches that I feel have a bit of cheese to them to add some retro flavor to things to help tell a little story.
It's about a sailor leaving her love behind to find a treasure but getting consumed by the journey. The guitar part in the final half and the effects put in to help give it a watery feel and later more of a drowning vibe were extremely fun to perform and patch in.
