Dear Listener,
It was a sunny day in October 2024 when I noticed the beginning of fall, always a wonder of nature's beauty. I was standing by the window that transformed itself into a picture frame of a impressionist painter and the term "after nature" drops slowly into my mind.
The double meaning of this term touched me deeply. I felt a kind of melancholy in the face of potential loss. Faced with the effects of the climate crisis, I realized that the old idea of a “pristine” nature on one hand and a “designed” culture on the other no longer works. There is a sense of rupture, a before and after, but the fault line is hard to define.
How can we connect or reconcile these polarities, the natural world and the human made world? Our world must be holistic. Everything is interconnected, nothing was created out of nothing.
Nothing illustrates this better than the famous photo “Earth Rise” taken by astronaut William Anders on December 24, 1968, during Apollo 8's flight to the moon: A small blue marble, vulnerable and lost on its journey through the infinite darkness of the universe. It is our home, our habitat! We have nothing else! Let's face the future with confidence, empathy and resilience.

The artist name "jor han" refers to one of my ancestors, the bavarian sculptor Christian Jorhan - father & son (18th century). Their work can be seen in many churches in Bavaria.
