Beseech Speech by Jeff Gburek

This short album presents new horizons of research & reconciliation to quantum losses and quantum gains. First, I am again finding myself looking for another language or mode of speech and searching for a mixture of sonorus spoken word that is informed by the act of writing but not bound to the text as finality. Path to pure poetry or pure junk. You alone will tell the tale. Second branch of research here concerns the evolving chromolodic mandolin. It is a standard mandolin with an odd tuning in that only the low string is in unison and although I start out with standard G as pitch, I change the tension of the strings to maximize the resonance of the instrument. The resultant mode is vaguely Japanese or a bit of Indonesian pelog. It is not easy to play each string separately because they are too close together but some unique quality comes from the proximity, something tentative and pensive and yet with some kind of elegance in the scale. Included on this album is a piece made in response to Marco Lucchi's "One Hand Piano" open call. I reworked the voice of my previously published "They Way of All Cacti"
