Wild Winds by James Shearman

This wall noise album was originally made for the 'walls for meditation' series on Reason Art Records. I'm not entirely sure what ended up happening - whether the walls were deemed not meditative enough or if myself and the labelhead Sergey decided to instead focus on another release of mine for the label at the time (perhaps A Winter Morning).

The album was made around November 2016 and has laid dormant on my hard drive all of this time. On one of my irregular sweeps I noticed it sitting there and decided on a bit of spring cleaning (that is, organisationally, it's been helping me to get rid of unreleased or half-finished things in my drive so that I'm more able to work on new projects without a feeling of guilt about the rest).

The cover artwork is a photograph I took while in Iceland.

These walls were meant to be both meditative and harsh - with an intention of deliberately evoking the windswept - it was the atmosphere produced in the image that I wanted to recreate. A forlorn commingling of different noises from different distances, with a foreground of cyclical crashing waves and frenetic battering winds - at once dull, ebbing, violent and chaotic.

My unending thanks to Sergey Pakhomov of RAR for all of the support he has shown me over the years - and for providing the impetus to create this release, even if it then gathered dust for a few years, I'm able to look back on this one and see it's archival value in charting my journey through HNW if nothing else.
