Codependency from Camp Stories by Jake Frazier

This was a song that I totally forgot I had written until I listened back to a decently old voice memo. I knew I needed to record it and put lyrics to it, but as that process began, I found myself more and more unimpressed and displeased. And then I added the horns... At the end of the day, Codependency is my favorite song on the record.

This song is about the culture that me and my friends created in early high school thanks to camps. To this day I struggle with having time to myself, part of it has to do with being in my own head, but another has to do with the constant requests to hang out together. Im fine during the day, but when the sun goes down I get very very anxious until I see my friends. We use to hang out together every day. It was a really big group too, like 10 to 15 people! Just a bunch of out there church kids who didn't really fit the mold but fit together. Our small group leaders would always warn us that we are too codependent on one another. In my mind, thats a beautiful thing. Humans are social creatures and I will die on that hill. As time goes on, that group changes names, faces and locations, but regardless, Its just not me unless Im with you.
