The focus of this song's lyrics have evolved over time. The initial idea was that we are forced to adopt different roles depending on the social situation; sometimes those roles don't accurately reflect how we percieve ourselves.
Continuing with that idea, the song has become like a letter to my younger self. There are difficulties that may come with navigating social situations without sticking to a pre-defined role, but it can often be more rewarding.
