Kentucky Banshee by Isaac Riley

It's very important that you don't forget where you come from. Where you come from is almost as important as where you wind up.

But never let where you come from haunt you.

These are far more personal and introspective pieces than I have written in the past. Especially for them all to be on one singular album. I was inspired by the raw, emotional bluntness of albums like Beck's Sea Change or my close friend Hylan's Currents, while also taking cues from genres I have not personally felt like I have "inhabited" before.

A recurring theme in this album is that of my hometown, somewhere in the mountains of eastern Kentucky. I spent a significant portion of my life there, and as I got older I increasingly became erratic and antsy about being stuck there. I always had felt I did not "mesh" with the other people that lived in my area, even ones that I got along well with.

That is not to say that my childhood was a bad one─I would say that overall it was a positive one, but the more I approached early adulthood, the more I grew resentful of the hand I was dealt in life.

I hope this album and its songs allow me to come to terms with these feelings. I like to think of it as a form of therapy, to accept the limitations of my past and not allow it to ever consume me again.
