Well now, this here “Ambientvalence” — ‘tis a fancy made-up word, that one. What it’s sayin’, see, is it’s the feelin’ you gets when the sound’s all settled, nice an’ still-like, but there’s this little bit of unease hidin’ under the surface. Sort of like when you knows a storm’s brewin’, but the air’s gone all quiet. You feels it, but you can’t quite put your finger on it.
This here collection runs for near on two hours, full of darkish, melancholy sounds. They’ve gone an’ taken the music, broke it all to bits, patched it back together, and then tinkered with it over an’ over, till the poor thing don’t sound nothin’ like it did to start with. What’s left is just a sort of ghost of a tune, floatin’ about in the air.
Now they’ve built this from four bits o’ sound, they have — not sayin’ what, mind — kept all secret-like. But if you’ve got a sharp ear, you might just catch a hint of what’s hidin’ in there.
Best sort o’ thing for listenin’ to when you’re in one o’ them in-between places, like waitin’ for the bus or walkin’ ‘cross the fields, or when you’re potterin’ ‘bout doin’ the housework. Makes the plain old everyday feel a bit special, so it do.
