Extenuating Circumstances by Hollis

This album was written during a particularly strange period in my life, where I moved to Sheffield from England to study Modern Languages.

It has simultaneously been the best and worst year of my life. There have been a few broken hearts, a few terrifying lows, eye-watering highs and strange silliness throughout.

It is the year I started writing music, the year I ran a radio show for 6 weeks, the year I started busking, playing music live, gigging and the year I learned who I was and who I wasn't.

It was also the year I got a bad job, quit, became homeless and had my entire University career saved by a sandwich charity who made a goFundMe page to keep me alive. Crazy, right?

I have written over 50 songs in the last 12 or so months. The ones on this album are most representative of who I am as a person. Particularly 'Curveball', which outlines the silly things that happen to me on a daily basis...
"Sometimes life will throw a curveball and you'll have to swerve or you will get knocked down, so dodge it fast or you will fall down flat upon your shoulders listen to me now"

'Something New' was written following a period where my heart was thoroughly broken and I decided to explore myself as a person in response.

'Tuesday Blues' was written following a particularly heavy bout of drinking whereby I wasn't doing even half as much Uni work as I probably should have...

'The Productivity Song' is one which I quite like because it documents my progression through a year of dramatic changes. Originally called the Get Shit Done song, a phrase coined by a very good friend of mine. The only thing is though, that 'Get Shit Done' doesn't do well on most major streaming sites that like family friendly content....

'Hometown' is a song that I think anyone who moved from a small town to a city will enjoy. It is truly representative of where I'm at as I'm typing this:
"starting over now and I'm coming back to where I thought I'd be this time last year, I'm going faster than I thought I possibly could and now I should keep going but remember the times where I had people who kept on feeding me, and keeping me alive"

Irish born and bread artist with a flair for the dramatic and ridiculous, and a habit for seeking out silly situations. Common themes include: alcohol, a precarious love life, travel and silly things... so in short - silly things.
