Verbal Violence by Greg Allen

Official Release #2.

This recording was heavily inspired by downtempo and ambient electronica. Tosca's "Opera" was a sort of template. Mood-, or feel-wise, I tried to make it palindromic (in time, not in space). From scratch to finished CD, this project was completed in 7 days. The beats were designed in Logic; drums and bass were laid down first, then the other tracks were recorded one at a time, without cross-referencing. The sections alternate between blissful ambient textures and dank beats.

The titles for each side approximate (or, if you like, caricature) the original German lyrics.

Interesting track-specific notes:

On Transparent, the changes in pitch were done by turning the tuning heads on the guitar while using the e-bow in the free hand.

The slide guitar in I.F.E. was done by laying the guitar across a mini-amp with the speaker facing up; the amp's output vibrated the guitar and especially the tremolo springs, and made some nice hollow knocking sounds.

On King Midas, the harmonica was run through chorus and delay pedals.
