LVII XXXVII, is an ambitious and expansive tribute to humanity's exploration of space. 57 years ago, Yuri Gagarin climbed into the Vostok 1, hoping to live to leave the atmosphere. On April 12, 1961, Gagarin's trip, from launch to landing, lasted 108 minutes. Twenty years later, on April 12, 1981, the first space shuttle, Columbia, launched into space for a 54 hour trip.
Each track on this album is made up solely of radio emissions recorded in space by NASA and then converted to audio. Some artists chose to substantially manipulate the source samples while others took more of a sound collage approach.
