Kafoiyé by Fred Everything & Trevor Walker

Fred Everything & Trevor Walker are back on Compost after the success of their recent E.S.M. (Earth, Sun, Moon) release!

The original sketch for Kafoiyé was written during the same session as E.S.M. and went through a long process. From being a cool instrumental afro/dubby track, the pair decided to add a vocal to it. Having previously cleared a DaLata sample with singer Diabel Cissokho for Fred’s label Lazy Days, they thought it would be the perfect occasion to work on something original with him.
The vocals were recorded in Dakar, adding also some recording of his main instrument, the kora. Diabel’s is a respected singer and multi-instrumentist. On top of his solo career and his collaboration with DaLata, Diabel also worked with Kandia Kouyate, Pee Wee Ellis, Omar Pene, Youssou N’Dour and toured with Paul McCartney, Amadou & Mariam, Damon Albarn...
For the remix, keeping it in the family once again with one of Fred’s close friend and collaborator Ludovic Llorca aka Art Of Tones, who effortlessly turned this track into a modern afro-beat floor filler, showing once again why he’s such a well loved and in demand producer.

Trevor & Fred:
Fred Everything and Trevor Walker have been friends since the mid 90s, sharing the decks countless times in various venues in Canada including at Mercury Lounge in Ottawa where they both held a residency, weekly for Trevor and bi-yearly for Fred. They became known for their 4 decks and 2 mixers sessions. The friendship and mutual respect goes deep. Fred often cites Trevor as one his favorite DJs in the world. Known for his wide knowledge of music and his passion for playing seemlessly through various styles, always with mastery. They recently got together in the studio. First for a remix on Lazy Days (Coco “Cognac” Brown) and now for 2 EPs on Compost. The first one is E.S.M. (Earth, Sun, Moon) inspired by classic Deep Dubby House sound from the late 90s, and featuring a remix by Fred’s close friend and collaborator Atjazz, who turned this one out with his unique magic touch. The second EP will be out in 2022, more on an Afro tip, featuring DaLata singer/collaborator Diabel Cissokho, with an additional remix from Art Of Tones.
