Unfolding Object from Generations by Phexioenesystems

Three of Mike's techniques are at play for this track: Follow Actions, Unsynched Loops and Using Scales.

The latter is the simplest in that this piece, like a lot of my work, is composed in one of Erv Wilson's 'Combination Product Set' tuning systems; these scales contain a limited number of pitches and effectively behave like a mode. The tonality is therefore entirely decided by the system, rather than by user-choice, beyond the selection of the system in the first instance. Pitch-selection within that tonality is then often random or stochastic in nature, but quantised (or manually tuned) to the available pitches.

While the piece was recorded using hardware, everything flows into the DAW unsynchronised to it, rendering the tempo there largely irrelevant except for the fact that it is the tempo the fx processing is aligned to. So you have the Ciat-Lonbarde Plumbutter (one tempo), other hardware (another tempo) going into a DAW with a third (nominal) tempo.

The Plumbutter, itself a sound ecosystem and by its design drives the user toward Mike's 'follow actions' prompt: cycles of signals trigger other signals, which trigger further signals, recursively; durations of cycles are similarly affected by envelopes of component sounds and therefore the entire environment is one where actions follow actions, unaffected by human interference.
