Sound-Elements by Elam Friedlander
The concept of Sound-Elements originated in the idea of a continuous piece of music that flows seamlessly between open improvisation and structure, and gives each musician in the band a place to express the specific soundscape of each spiritual-material element: fire, water earth and air. Each element is introduced by a different member of the group with an open improvisation which then leads into the composition dedicated to that element-all these parts are interconnected into one organic piece of music.
Sound-Elements is my debut album as a leader and it is my privilege and honor to have recorded it with Abraham Burton, Eric McPherson and Luis Perdomo. A chance occasion to play with Abraham and Eric at Smalls in 2018 opened for me a musical universe that will continue to nurture me for many years to come.

Elam has played with distinguished artists such as Duane Eubanks, Nasheet Waits, David Bryant, Jason Palmer, Tom Oren and more. Elam has performed at venues such as Smalls Jazz Club, Carnegie Hall, Duc des Lombards, Red Sea Jazz Festival,Jazz at Lincoln Center and others.
