we have been planting seeds
each day, every time we speak
since our existences collided

at first, i had to remind myself
that your touch is real
it only feels like a dream

i check the asters in the courtyard
every night on my walk home

people grow before they find soil
for these friends of ours
quite the opposite
they won’t run away and
