Notte Variations is a compilation of works by Dimitar Dodovski, a member of the Macedonian band Post Global Trio, who in the Dérive Dub project for a moment slipped out of the comfort zone of ambient music to produce a very high quality dub techno release. If you even remember the whole craze around the label Chain Reaction, or Luomo flirting on the borders of dub and deep house, the first of these night variations will transport you to the golden era of these bygone times, when techno cared more about how to be enviably ironed, hypnotic and delicately compact - sounding less like cohones of metal and goth rampage in rave / electronic waters, and more like a (fashionable) intellectual fad. Dodovski fascinatingly handles and knows this matter, which essence in the Balkans was well captured by both Goran Geto and Slovenian Organon and the album includes pieces that lack neither musical inspiration nor the already mentioned compactness of sound vision. Notte… is an album with a bedroom pedigree created for introverted clubbers who prefer to dance in their imagination, or in the darkened corners of their room / music studio and is really the biggest recommendation for fans of this sound, who won't hear it much anyway in the nearby club meccas these days.
