Stereo People by Santoma

Drifting over the mirage crusted horizon like a raven floating towards the sun-bleached desert fringes of the Los Angeles basin comes, “Santoma” with blissed out beats and trippy funked up grooves. Sandra Lima (aka “San”) brings her soft, sultry soul to this duo while Thomas White (aka “Toma”) brings a laboratory full of hand crafted electronic tools and low fidelity rhythm machines. Together they offer a diverse musical perspective that harkens back to the side rooms and ambient pillow piles at early 90’s raves, mixed up with San Frandisco Shroom Boom, and roasted over some Northern Soul for just the right amount of complex flavor. In their debut full-length album, “Stereo People” Santoma offer a carefully crafted invitation to boogie on the dance floor, to nod your head driving near the coast, or to simply close your eyes and drift away into your imagination.

Founded on the premise of writing exploratory music, Santoma come from a rich heritage rooted in underground house music. The direction and nature of this project formed completely organically through a musical curiosity fueled by friendship, late nights writing on scraps of paper and more than an occasional dram of Scotch whisky. Captured in these recordings are significant human experiences including true love, the pain of separation, loneliness, the runaway passing of time and the need to escape the trappings of the world. These two cooks have been in the kitchen cooking up this sonic meal for over a decade and hope you will create some space for yourself to savor it as it goes down. To chew on each thoughtfully placed note or rhythmic expression. To open your mind to your own life experiences and reflecting on any similarities you happen across.

In such polarized times, “Stereo People” will hopefully inspire you to meet others in the middle of the road, and to move together to a new groove instead of dividing and compartmentalizing the stresses we share as citizens of the world.
