"Back in August I spent the month recording a double LP for the
Castles In Space Subscription Library. Here's a bit about the record.
"I was trying out a number of different composition and sound design techniques at the time, and wanted to make something which included a bit of everything. There's a few tracks which are a lot more rhythm-based than previous work, for example. I was going for a really earthy, natural feel, with sounds that almost resembled acoustic instruments, played with loose timing. Tom Waits-style percussion and the free-jazz that influenced "Chaos Blooms" is also in the mix. I was reading a lot of Ballard short stories at the time, and I was particularly taken with his idea of Sonic Sculptures. A few of these tracks came about as an attempt to create something based on this idea. Despite the variety of stuff here, I think it still works as a cohesive collection as it was all done within a short period of time. Some of my heaviest tracks are sitting alongside some of my prettiest, but they all document the same period of time in my artistic journey."
