Cinder Well by Cinder Well
This is the first Cinder Well EP - Recorded by August Nicky Golden, my dear friend who we just lost at a shooting at a punk show in Minneapolis.
In 2015 we lived together in a punk house in Portland called Scowling House. August recorded the first Cinder Well songs I wrote on a four track tape recorder in my bedroom and on the piano in the living room (in a rare moment where it was empty). August and Bryan also printed the first tapes for me to take on tour in Europe. I met August in college in Santa Cruz, he was my teaching assistant in Intro to Marxism lol, a class taught by the mayor, where we'd have weekly potlucks at different houses around town. I recorded a song for my final project, I got a bad grade and Aug blamed it on the other TA.
Before hearing the news, I'd been thinking about this album a lot. Today I share it with you to honor August's work, his witnessing me making music all the way since the Santa Cruz days, him capturing this moment in time with nothing but love and support.
I'll carry from August how to be a good friend, how to just show up, how to be his friends' biggest fan. He just knew how to be such a good friend. Remember to love your people. They are really the most precious gift we have.
