Sofienberg Spirits by Christoph Stiefel
„Sofienberg Spirits“, das dritte Soloalbum des schweizerischen Pianisten Christoph Stiefel lässt sich ebenso in der Welt der Klassik verankern wie im Jazz, man kann es impressionistisch oder meditativ nennen, als über den Dingen stehend oder tief in ihrem Kern ruhend empfinden. In seinem Solospiel ist Stiefel ganz bei sich, und doch wirkt es, als würde er mit sich selbst als Band verhandeln. Komplexität im Ansatz verwandelt sich bei Stiefel in Einfachheit in der Umsetzung, physische Wucht begegnet auf sehr individuelle Weise transzendenter Poesie.

Born in 1961, the Swiss pianist joined the band of Andreas Vollenweider at 23 and toured worldwide with them. With his own projects, he produced and published 23 albums to date. He has turned intensively to jazz piano music and composition in the last 20 years and became well known internationally for his own jazz style, by using a compositional technique from the Middle Ages (Isorhythms).
