As it's December now, it seems a fitting time to share the demo of my song "December". This is a one take live demo, recorded just after I finished writing it, in October 2024.

I have always loved December, but it's also a very reflective time, being the end of the year (and my Birthday) and there's something about collectively experiencing the same event every year, with all its traditions, that makes it an interesting point of reference for how life has changed or not each time it's experienced. I'm always struck by the desire to hold onto the special moments, cos they fly by so fast, but it can be hard to recall the minutiae of daily life once its slipped down the sands of time. Often we're so busy worrying about the future, we forget to realise the beauty in the chaos of each moment. Sometimes it's hard to remember that it's a privilege to be able to take for granted the mundane parts of life, when we're caught up in everyday stresses.

In December I always find myself trying to zoom out to see the bigger picture, and that can be wonderful and also scary. Fears of what we might lose, fears of what we might never have, fear of things changing, fear of things staying the same. There's beauty and sorrow in ever-changing time, and I tried to capture that in this song.
