Un Segundo by CECILIA ANN

Three excellent singles (“Nidea”, “Si No Lo Ves” and “Y Tú Qué Haces”, the latter featuring a cover of THE BEATLES) preceded CECILIA ANN’s long-awaited debut album. If their first references relied on the help on production of their admired Alejandro Díez (from LOS FLECHAZOS), this time they had a big star, an influent and internationally admired person: Mr Ken Stringfellow himself, of THE POSIES and the legendary BIG STAR fame.

With Ken’s presence and his astounding way of hard working (the recording sessions were up to sixteen hours), the intrinsic quality of CECILIA ANN’s compositions were embellished until they came up with a compact, full and consistent record, joining a careful mix with a live atmosphere which makes it closer, and more intense.

The vocals and the harmonies have been looked after with love (and you don’t understand their excellent lyrics in Spanish!), whilst the sound of the guitars, always on the front in this record, shows a great richness and variety, always helped by many different keyboards drawing intelligent and effective lines.

On “Un Segundo” (the album, beautifully designed by Cindy Kid), CECILIA ANN have recorded the definitive, unbeatable version of the classic, catchy theme from their demo and their first single, which has named the whole album. Two splendid songs follow it: “Quería Estar Contigo”, sung by Estrella, alternates sweet moments with strong passages and sharp guitar solos à la THE POSIES, and “Gris” brings back to life the best moments of BIG STAR or TEENAGE FANCLUB. On “Es Una Ilusión”, a song Neil Young would have liked to write, Arturo sings with a broken voice a mellow melody, whilst “Imagino” is a fantastic experimental pop song with a great crescendo to end a great album.
