K2 is a deeply personal album by Lebanese filmmaker and musician Camille Cabbabe, inspired by the memory of her late brother, Karim, who passed away in 2014. This introspective project intertwines song and visual storytelling, capturing a complex timeline of grief, memory, and familial love.

Composed over the summer of 2023, the album’s 18 tracks, each under three minutes long, were recorded at home using minimal gear and reflect Camille’s memories of her brother, often focusing on moments that were never captured on camera—moments that have remained vivid in her mind. Each song on K2 serves as a musical reflection of a specific memory, offering a raw and intimate exploration of the emotions surrounding both meeting and losing her brother.

To accompany the album, Camille edited a film that blends home footage—much of it shot by her mother in Hong Kong where Karim lived—and other personal videos gathered over the years. The film was conceived as a visual counterpart to the album, created to complement its sense of nostalgia and emotional depth.

While the album acts as the film’s “soundtrack,” it was the music that initially inspired the visuals: Camille’s compositions evoked a cinematic quality that called for imagery to be woven around them. In the editing process, she sought to capture the essence of each memory, acknowledging the frustrating reality that the most profound moments are often the ones left unrecorded.

K2 is an album about the passage of time, the fading of memories, and the challenge of making sense of the unspoken, a story told through music and visuals that together encapsulate a journey of grief, remembrance, and acceptance.

Camille Cabbabe is a Lebanese filmmaker, screenwriter, and musician whose creative endeavors span film, music, and literature. Camille earned a BA in Filmmaking from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts in 2017, and her senior film, Down is the New Up, won two awards and was screened at various international festivals. She began her career as a freelance camera operator and editor, later transitioning into screenwriting. Between 2018 and 2022, Camille co-wrote the original series Al Shak and Fixer for Last Floor Productions and worked on a range of independent projects, including for major streaming platforms. In 2020, she was selected for USC’s MEMI program to develop a series she co-wrote.

In 2023, Camille expanded her creative portfolio into literature, writing her first short story Phantom Limb, which will appear in the upcoming Arabian Nightmares anthology. In addition to filmmaking, Camille has been involved in music for over a decade, playing with various bands. K2 is her first solo album, set for release in 2025, and it marks a new chapter in her artistic journey, blending music, film, and personal storytelling.
