Following on from their much appreciated debut mini album Reality Cravings’ and most recently the Sleep Party People remix for that album’s keytrack, HMS Beagle, our favorite Danish glitch pop duo between mermaids and me returns with a brand new single.
Here we are presented with their cover version of the classic Jacob Bellens song Untouchable in their own inimitable style.
Produced by Kasper Bjørke, with Nils Grøndahl on violin and Jakob Høyer on drums, the heart warming, melancholic original remains Jacob Bellens most popular song. The dark and somewhat symphonic song has a sinister feel and is basically about not getting along with the one you love.
Now fellow Danes between mermaids and me crafted a fresh and stunning cover.
The fundamental pop aesthetics remain, but the duo bring a hyper-kinetic backing to the track that ranges from understated to maximal in its approach. It’s a trick few could get away with but worlds perfectly match for this lovingly created homage to the original.
The Danish Glitch-Pop duo between mermaids and me is the sound of controlled chaos, the limitless and the experimental – held together by a relentless and durable friendship. The synthesis of a colorful, female producer and an experimental drummer. Behind the alias we find Andreas Pilgaard and Stine Drejer, who have been making music together ever since they met each other 11 years ago.
