Sittin’ on the couch at my mother's place,
Just me and my son, and my acoustic bass.
My kid’s just a baby, can’t even sit up.
He’s definitely not ready for a sippy cup.

So I pick up the bass and I begin to play,
It’s just something to do to pass the time away.
Then my kid starts to wiggle from his head to his feet,
And we both start smilin’ ‘cause he’s movin’ to the beat.

I said Francis, he dances!
Said Francis, that baby boy dances.

Well, the years go by, my mother’s gone,
But she left her love of music to carry us on.
My kids got bigger, now they’re grown,
And they make music of their own.

But I learned something there from that baby on the couch.
When it’s dancing time, a baby ain’t no slouch.
So when it comes to life, I know how to behave,
Gotta make some beats from the cradle to the grave.
