Image was made using a technique called "no-input" on a mixing board, where the musician feeds the board back into itself to generate semi-chaotic noise. You can then use the EQ, volume faders, and send controls to sculpt the feedback and combine the different channels. These pieces were performed on a Mackie SR24.4 and a few effects pedals.

During the months that I was recording what would become this album, I was also just beginning to realize that I was trans. At a time of such personal upheaval, I felt completely safe in the sonic landscapes I was summoning late at night. I would hit record on each piece with only a vague plan for it, and it would seem to unfold before me like a dream. I envisioned the feedback loops and different routes that they could take as neural pathways that I was traversing, as though I was rewiring my self-image through improvisation. I had a space where I could feel whatever I was feeling, act on those feelings, and honor the results. All the pieces on the record are first takes.

Image was intended to be released as a split tape along with Every Emotion by Air Creature (AKA Spencer Schoening). Spencer and I discovered noise music at the same time, listened to it together, and generally shared our thoughts about it with one another while we began our respective journeys into making it.
