Infinite Universe from You Shine by Alex Vann
THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG
The inspiration from this song originally came from a visit to the Hayden Planetarium at the American Museum of Natural History, New York City. I was blown away by the explanation about the stars and how space works and that each individual human being will have a unique perspective on the world and space. It’s mind blowing.
Then, as I started to write the song, I posted an early demo of a chorus and a verse on Facebook and asked people to send in their ideas for lyrics. I took all these ideas and finished the song and then started to think about the video.
The video for the song (see YouTube) obviously has to link to space so I sourced royalty free footage but it’s also a song about people – things that change history like the countless wars, the building and removal of walls and boundaries.
Then things started to happen in real life which were so enormous they had to go in: people in face masks, protests around the Black Lives Matters movement. It seems to be history is repeating itself and we aren’t learning by our mistakes. Maybe we need regular shake ups like we’ve experienced in 2020 to remind us about what really matters?”
